the autumn schedule is falling in to place, though there are still a few bits and pieces yet to fall into place.

beginning friday, september 7th:

i will be guiding my GENTLE YOGA classes on mondays and fridays, 10:30a – 11:30a, and coaching GROUP KETTLEBELL classes on mondays and fridays, 12:00p – 12:45p, at the west royalty community centre on kirkland road.  get in touch with me for further information.

beginning monday, september 10th:

i will be instructing and sweating through the ADULT LO/NO IMPACT FITNESS on mondays, wednesdays, fridays, 8:45a – 9:45a, at the west royalty community centre on kirkland road, for the city of charlottetown. get in touch with city of charlottetown department of parks and recreation for information.  watch for winter and spring sessions after this fall session.

beginning tuesday, october 2nd:

i will be having a blast with the SENIORS FITNESS class on tuesdays and thursdays, 9:30a – 10:30a, at park royal church, for the city of charlottetown. get in touch with the city dept of parks and rec for info. watch for the winter and spring sessions too.

i am excited to be guiding the queen’s county SENIORS YOGA & STRETCH on tuesdays, 11:30a – 1:00p, at camp gencheff for seniors college. register through seniors college and watch for winter and spring semester sessions in the same time slot in the same location.

beginning wednesday, october 3rd:

king’s county gets some SENIORS YOGA & STRETCH too. on wednesdays from 1:30p – 3:00p, at atlantic fitness east. get in touch with seniors college to participate. winter and spring semester sessions will be running.

beginning thursday, october 4th:

i will be leading a queen’s county MEDITATION AND BREATHWORK class on thursdays, 11:30 – 12:30, for seniors college, at camp gencheff. contact seniors college for further information.

quality of our life

it feels rather unreal, that a month has passed since the whole way health & fitness studio closed.

the days have passed, each in abundance and fullness, with so much to be grateful for. still, i have not managed to organize, adequately, how i will continue to serve.

i spent 13 hours this month training in nova scotia with Julie Palmer of Yoga4all. along with 19 other aspirants, i learned about and explored Chair Yoga For Seniors.  i had taken this training 3 years ago, but had not, it ended uchairyttgroupp, ever taught a Chair Yoga Class. so, with teaching foremost on my mind, i renewed and refreshed, and i am so very glad i did.

i taught my first Chair Yoga Class at Now N Zen in Stratford, PE last week. it was intriguing to design the class and so fun to teach. the participants, already chair yoga practitioners, were so gracious and welcoming. it was such a heartful experience. i am excited for our future classes together.

also excited for the Chair Yoga Classes i will be teaching in Montague! at AFE beginning May 2nd.

the Canadian Centre for Activity and Aging, University of Western Ontario, was on island providing training.  i was fortunate to attend as a delegate of Seniors College, for whom i teach Yoga and Meditation classes.  we trained in a number of Functional Assessment Measures (FAM) and i was particularly excited and inspired by the brilliantly designed Tiered Exercise Program (TEP). i will be implementing so much of what i learned across a number of classes i teach.

kelleri also managed to get to 3 out of 4 sessions offered by Doug Keller of Doyoga in Charlottetown this month. these workshops focused on Sacral Stability, Bandhas and the Breath, with so much goodness for shoulders added in. there is always so much to learn from Doug, that my head and heart spin in these sessions.

during the month, my brother arrived from ON with a van load of my mom’s belongings … furnishings, clothing, clothing, clothing.  integrating our things with her things with studio things means narrow passage ways and boxes galore. someday they may or may not all be unpacked.

having mom join our household has been an adventure. i keep thinking i would like to blog this part of life. perhaps i’ll get to it.

today i completed three tax returns.

the whole way health & fitness studio is now offering kettlebell classes designed specifically for those of us dealing with issues related to aging.

there is a growing body of research which tells us that regular physical activity can reduce the risk of dementia, including Alzheimer’s disease, by as much as 50%. the mechanism seems to be the increased flow of blood — therefore oxygen — to your brain. this is a message consistently put out there by neuroscientists — exercise which increases your heart rate is the best preventative for dementia and a vital prescriptive for dementia.

recent research indicates that resistance training can reverse aspects of aging at the gene level. wow! regular, progressive resistance training also improves the muscle’s longevity profile at the molecular level;  long-term resistance training is associated with a lower risk of age-associated disease and death.

resistance training does more than just make you stronger. it helps optimize biomarkers indicative of overall wellness such as triglycerides, LDL-cholesterol, and HDL-cholesterol in both men and women. sweet news.

mood and mental health markers, like depression, anxiety and response to stress are improved with regular exercise.

the amount of daily or weekly activity you put into your life is totally within your control!  group activities have the added benefit of new social interaction.

the whole way health & fitness studio provides a friendly and supportive atmosphere; a place where you’ll receive instruction with care and expertise.

thank you to my brother who has become the primary caretaker of our mother.

thank you to each and every one of you who have stepped into this responsibility.

you might not have known how this was going to take you into a deep, deep dive. after all, this is youvaginar mom and after all the years of she giving to you, you thought it fitting, your sharing of your life so that she may continue her independence.

it seemed the easy answer. you had an apartment in your home and she could be independent and, at the same time, close at hand. or, you could arrange your final years of work from ‘home,’ and ‘home’ was easily arranged to be her home . . . that would work, would be a manageable change for you in the short term.

it has not been as easy and as straightforward as it once seemed it might be.

we, your siblings, mom and choyce know that. we appreciate you. we love you. we want our moms to be loved and cared for. we love that you are able to do this for her.

you are the special ones. we do not know how to help, but we want to. just. ask
