March is National Nutrition Month. Though the theme for the month differs from country to country, it seems this year most themes have a focus on what might broadly be referred to as food culture. And I believe it is changes in this arena – the food cultures of countries, regions, communities, families – that will bring us back to dietary health.
Jamie Oliver, in his TED presentation, takes aim at the devolution of food culture in the United States, but this applies to most industrialized countries. While I don’t agree with everything he has to say, particularly with respect to the solutions he proposes, his talk is evocative, provocative and timely.
It is worth 20 minutes of your time to watch and it will give you lots to think about. Head on over to Jamie Oliver’s Teach Every Child About Food at TED.com and come back and tell me what you think. I’d love to hear some of your thoughts.
